Untreated factories’ liquid waste pollutes the River and Wetland’s Environment
The Department of Environment Bangladesh, Chattagram Metropolis, Bangladesh, fined a washing factory named Safdress Factory of BDT.0.19 million for environmental pollution by dumping untreated liquid waste into the water body.
Mr.Hillol Biswas, Director of Environment Department, Chattagram City, imposed the fine after the hearing on August 06, 2020.
Reportedly, the team of the Environment department has found the company’s ETP invalid. Before this, the liquid waste of the institution has tested on September 6 last year. It contains more than normal levels of harmful substances.
Apart from this, this untreated liquid waste gets discharged into the surrounding canals. Due to this, the Environment and surroundings of the area have been severely damaged. Besides, the company’s environmental clearance certificate was also not updated.
Hillol Biswas of the Department of Environment, Chattagram Metropolitan, claimed that the factory had received several warnings and had previously been fined.
However, the factory authorities are not taking it into account and are running the operation without ETP. Because of this, in the presence of the owner of the factory, a compensation of BDT. 0.19 million was imposed under Section 7 of the Bangladesh Environmental Conservation Act, 1995. The imposed fine has been asked to deposit through the Government treasury challan within the next seven days.
