US Senate passes new bill to fight against climate change
The Senate, the upper body of the US Congress, have passed bills to fight against climate change, decrease Medicine prices, and raise corporate taxes.
Recently, the US Senate passed this bill for 43 billion dollars. The bill’s passage has become a significant victory for President Joe Biden.
Biden’s party, the Democratic Party, hopes the bill’s passage will give Democrats an advantage in retaining control of Congress in this year’s midterm elections. The bill has been debated in the Senate for 27 hours.
Republicans tried hard to prevent the bill from passing. But in the end, the bill passed the Senate by a vote of 51-50. Vice President Kamala Harris cast the “tiebreaking” vote for the bill’s passage.
The bill will now go to the lower body, i.e., the House of Representatives. The House of Representatives may vote on the bill for approval soon. The bill expects to pass the House of Representatives. The bill will then send to the White House for the President’s signature.
In a statement, President Biden said he looks forward to signing the bill into law. Senate Democrats cheered as the bill passed.
Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority Leader, said, “Senate is making history. Congress could do something big—the bill is for Americans who have lost faith. The bill is going to change America. The bill contains the boldest environmentally friendly energy package in American history to help fight climate change. The bill would reduce consumer spending on fuel and some drugs.”
Republican senators reacted negatively to the bill. Democrats have come under intense attack in the Senate.
