Environmental pollution is constantly increasing in India
According to a survey conducted by the Environmental Performance Index (EPI), environmental pollution is rising in India, one of the most populous countries globally.
The survey undergoes in 132 countries around the world. Currently, India’s position is 125th. In 2008, India ranked 120th.
According to EPI, representatives from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, “India, and China, among other countries, are at high risk. Ensuring its economic security and solving the problem of environmental pollution is much more challenging for India.”
Environmentalists in India informed that their country had not made much progress on the issue of climate change. Due to this, India has lost its position.
Environmental pollution is much higher in other parts of India. Of these, air and water pollution levels are the highest. In 2008, India’s water pollution and sewerage conditions were terrible. However, the most frightening thing for India is air pollution.
Primarily, air pollution gets triggered by the combustion of fossil fuels. The primary contributors are fossil-fuel-powered vehicles (cars, trucks, airplanes, and ships) and coal- or oil-fired power plants and factories.
However, any activity involving the combustion of wood or fossil fuels may release particulate matter. Sources at the household level include tobacco, stoves and ovens, candles, and fireplaces. Volcanoes and wildfires can both contribute significantly to air pollution.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends keeping air pollution levels between 0 and 10 g/m3. The air quality index (AQI) monitors pollution levels in 109 countries worldwide, considers readings above 35.5 to be unhealthy for sensitive groups, levels between 55.5 and 150.4 to be harmful to everyone, and anything above 150.5 to 250.4 to be highly unhealthy or hazardous (250.5 or higher).
