Human chain on Dhaka-Chattogram highway to protest environmental pollution
Teachers, students, and local farmers formed a human chain on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Bangladesh to protest pollution from the waste of a steel manufacturing company named BSRM in the Bar Aulia area of Chattogram.
Locals formed a human chain and protested on 10 March to protest the environmental pollution of the village due to waste from a rod manufacturing factory located in the Bar Aulia area of Sitakunda Upazila, Chattogram.
School and college students, women, children, and local farmers stood in a long line on the highway in front of the BSRM factory in Bar Aulia and participated in the human chain program.
The speakers in the human chain said that the BSRM recycling project is causing terrible environmental pollution. The black smoke and dust from the factory are harming the villagers’ health and causing various diseases.
For 15 years, there has been no crop production in the area, and the water in the pond cannot be used. The number of cancer patients has increased in the area in the last few years.
In the last year four people in this village have died of cancer. Despite repeatedly informing the factory authorities about the matter, no action is being taken. The speakers said that if the authorities do not take immediate action, a stricter program, they warned.
