Bangladesh Prime Minister’s 10 quick actions to handle the severe floods and landslides in the Chittagong area

Current continuous heavy rains, flash floods and landslides have created a terrible natural disaster in Chittagong and the hilly regions. The government of Bangladesh has acted fast and well to control the situation and protect the lives of those affected. This is a crucial time as millions are in water and daily life is disturbed.

His advisor and spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, Mahdi Amin, has explained the 10 urgent steps given by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to handle this disaster in the Chittagong area.

He highlighted these steps in a detailed post on social media Facebook on Friday (10/07/2026) afternoon. He said that every situation in the disaster-hit areas is being closely monitored under the direct and round-the-clock instructions of the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister has strictly instructed leaders and workers of all levels of the ruling party BNP to rise above party affiliation and stand by the common people. Local officials, public representatives, and police have been told to work together to check the damage and help with rescue efforts.

10 main steps from the Prime Minister to manage the disaster:

  1. Round-the-clock monitoring and coordination: The Prime Minister himself is keeping abreast of the disaster-hit areas at all times. The Prime Minister’s Office is giving needed advice by staying in regular touch with the Deputy commissioner (DC), Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), and law enforcement members.
  2. More than a thousand shelters opened: 1,057 shelters have already been prepared and opened in Chittagong division for the safe shelter of disaster-hit people, where more than 12,000 people have taken shelter so far.
  3. Emergency help and money support: The General Relief (GR) program has set aside 2.15 crore taka in cash and 3,450 metric tons of rice for the people in the five districts of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Bandarban in the country. This aid is being sent to the people affected as soon as possible.
  4. Making sure people have healthcare and basic needs: Safe drinking water, clean facilities, and emergency healthcare have been provided to stop the spread of disease in flooded areas. In addition, three meals a day, including baby food, are being provided regularly in the shelters.
  5. The Bangladesh army is now helping with rescue work. They understand the situation and know that the hilly areas are hard to reach. So, the army is working in the affected areas with the police to speed up the rescue efforts.
  6. The Prime Minister has told local leaders and public representatives to be in the flood-affected areas. They should stay with the people to show support and give them confidence.
  7. Integrated humanitarian efforts: To help the victims, the government, Coast Guard, Army, and law enforcement are all working together. BNP leaders and activists from all levels and partner groups are also involved, from the center down to the field.
  8. Ongoing HSC exams stopped: To keep the candidates safe from heavy rains, floods, and landslides, the HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) and similar exams in the affected areas have been temporarily stopped.
  9. The local administration is visiting the families of the victims to offer their condolences. They want to help those who lost their lives in the natural disaster. Top officials, along with community leaders and activists, are going to the victims’ homes and checking on them.
  10. Permanent infrastructure and repair plan: To permanently fix the waterlogging on the Chittagong-Dohazari railway line that was flooded by heavy rains, a plan has been created to raise this 47-kilometer railway line by 5 feet. The tender process has already begun. In addition, the government will provide permanent housing in safe places for residents at extreme risk of landslides.

Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin shared his hope about the quick and united effort. He said, “We believe that with the government’s fast choices, humanitarian work, and teamwork, we can handle this natural disaster quickly, God willing.” The Prime Minister cares for the affected people during this crisis. The government is always here to help.
