Air New Zealand Sets Ambitious Goal to Cut Carbon Emissions for a Greener Future.
A brave step towards environmental sustainability, Air New Zealand has made a historic announcement pledging to drastically cut its carbon emissions. This pledge is a part of a larger effort by the aviation sector to combat climate change and encourage responsible travel.
By 2030, Air New Zealand promises to cut its carbon emissions. The failure to meet climate targets has been attributed to a lack of sophisticated aircraft and unsustainable jet fuel supplies.
The first airline to leave the climate targets was Air New Zealand. According to the airline, carbon emissions will not be able to be reduced to a specific level by 2030, but they will be completely eliminated by 2050.
Worldwide carbon emissions from the aviation sector are expected to be cut by 2%. To counter this, they have discussed replacing the outdated planes with new ones and utilising fuel from renewable sources.
In a statement, George Forgan, the CEO of Air New Zealand, stated that postponing plans to purchase renewable energy would jeopardise our goals.
In 2022, Air New Zealand declared their intention to cut carbon emissions by 29% by the year 2020. Nevertheless, the aviation sector claims that during this time, carbon emissions can be cut by 5%. There, Air New Zealand could not have hoped for anything.
By 2050, the airline sector aims to have zero carbon emissions, according to the International Airlines Association (IAI). Thus, no airline is giving up on this goal.
