Tajul Islam, Minister, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives ((MoLGRD)), said that “All the canals in the Dhaka city will be Redemption by 2022. For this purpose, two mayors of the Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporation and all the concerned have started work.”



The Minister was addressing at the closing ceremony of the exhibition titled ‘Save Earth Save Bangladesh’ on the occasion of “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s 100-year birth centenary”, “Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Independence,” and “Victory Day celebrations of Bangladesh” at BTCL Stadium in the capital. BD Clean organized the event.

As the Minister’s chief guest said, “People who live in tobacco-grown areas are highly vulnerable to its consequences. Cigarette filters are petroleum substance that contaminates the soil.”

Noting that thousands of trees are getting cut down to make paper on the filter, the Minister said, “Overall, cigarettes are an inhumane product. For this, people of all classes and professions should stop smoking.”

Atiqul Islam, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), the special guests at the function, presided over the meeting, and Nahid Izahar Khan, Waste Management Officer of North City Corporation Commodore SM Sharif-ul Islam, and Md. Nasir, the local councilor of the City Corporation were present at the meeting.



Atiqul Islam demanded more taxes should impose on cigarettes. “Cigarette filters are mixed with the soil and pollute. As a result, the fruits are getting malnourished. It mixes with water is and increases air pollution.”

Mayor urged the youth to step forward to help make the city more habitable and said, “The youth should unite against those who are occupying the canals in the city and those who are spoiling the beauty of the city. This country will be much more beautiful if the youth come forward.”

Aiming the beverage company owners, he said, “Those who are making plastic bottles, if they fix a price for the bottle, which will allow people to return the bottles for recycling. In this way, it will be possible to reduce the drainage problems of the capital.”
