Bamboo Skyscraper: ‘Green Steel’ Revolution in Bangladesh’s Construction Industry

A new horizon has opened in Bangladesh’s construction industry in 2026. Processed ‘engineered bamboo or Bamboo’ is now being used in place of concrete and steel.

Bangladesh’s first 10-story, completely eco-friendly ‘bamboo tower’ has been built in Purbachal, Dhaka. It is referred to as ‘Green Steel’. It has cut carbon emissions in the construction industry by 80 percent all at once.

Technology and Sustainability: These special bamboos are turned into sheets in labs using chemicals and high pressure. They are lighter and stronger than steel.

Buildings built with this technology in 2026 are earthquake-resistant and naturally heat-insulating. As a result, these buildings do not need AC.

Farmers’ Profits and Climate Impact: Bamboo farming absorbs a lot of carbon and is growing rapidly. Farmers in the hilly and northern regions of Bangladesh are now cultivating bamboo on a commercial basis. Bamboo is now one of the main construction raw materials in Bangladesh in 2026.

It’s found in research that a bamboo building can hold around 100 tons of carbon dioxide during its life (Carbon Sequestration), but concrete buildings release carbon.

Future Cities: The Ministry of Housing and Public Works now requires that at least 20 percent of materials used in all government buildings must be bamboo or eco-friendly materials in the new building rules for 2026.

Bangladesh is now showing the world how to create a ‘sustainable city’ by combining ancient traditions and modern technology.
