Bangladesh needs US$230 billion to implement the new National Adaptation Plan (NAP): Minister of Environment, Bangladesh
Md Shahab Uddin, the Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Bangladesh, said that Bangladesh needs US$230 billion by 2030 to implement 113 activities in 8 thematic areas identified in the new National Adaptation Plan (NAP).
He said, ‘We will use internal resources. However, without international and bilateral support, it will be difficult for us to implement and achieve climate resilience. So we expect cooperation and support from developed countries like the UK.”
After meeting with a delegation led by Robert Chatterton Dickson, British High Commissioner, the Bangladesh Environment Minister made these remarks in his office meeting room.
The Environment Minister said that the government is trying its best to conserve the environment and biodiversity and combat climate change with its limited resources.
In the updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Bangladesh has increased its emissions reduction target from 15 percent to 21.85 percent below normal by 2030.
We look forward to the US$100 billion committed by developed countries to help countries at risk of climate change.
British High Commissioner Dickson said that Britain would provide the necessary support to Bangladesh in related activities, medical waste management, and technology and research to combat the effects of climate change.
Referring to the Bangladesh-UK close alliance, the High Commissioner said that the ongoing cooperation of the UK would continue at an increasing pace.
