Bangladesh’s Cabinet directed the concerned to use alternatives of single-use plastics

To reduce environmental pollution from single-use plastics, the Bangladesh cabinet has mandated the use of alternative plastic products in all government offices.

In view of the request of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the advisor of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bangladesh, this directive was issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday.

The Cabinet Department has requested the use of paper or eco-friendly files and folders instead of plastic ones.

Cotton/Jute fabric bags are asked to be used instead of plastic bags. It is recommended to use glass bottles and glass glasses instead of plastic water bottles.



Use of banners made of cotton fabric, jute fabric or biodegradable materials is requested instead of plastic banners. Invitations, visiting cards and various types of promotional materials have been asked to avoid plastic laminates.

It has been asked to ensure that food packets provided in various meetings/seminars are made of paper/eco-friendly. It has been requested to avoid all types of products, including single-use plastic plates, glasses, cups, stews, cutlery.

It is asked to use a pencil/ Fountain pen instead of a plastic pen. All publications, including annual reports, must stop using laminated wrappers and plastic in flower bouquets.

Cabinet instructed all ministry secretaries, divisional commissioners, and district administrators to ensure compliance with government directives.

The Cabinet Division has issued guidelines for managing single-use plastic as part of efforts to combat plastic pollution and promote self-reliance.
