Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garment Industry: Global Leadership in

By 2026, Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garment Industry (RMG) will be recognized globally not just for affordable clothing but also as the world’s greenest manufacturing hub. Today, more than 500 factories in the country have achieved ‘Zero Liquid Discharge’ (ZLD) certification. This means that not a single drop of toxic water from these factories falls into the river.

Green Technology Revolution

Earlier, water mixed with a lot of chemicals was discharged into the river during dyeing or coloring clothes. The modern ETP plants of 2026 are cleaning 99.9% of this water and reusing it in the factories. This has reduced groundwater consumption by 70%. In addition, the factories are meeting their own electricity needs by installing solar panels on the roofs.

Attracting international customers

Buyers from Europe and America now check its ‘eco-label’ when buying clothes. By 2026, all garments in Bangladesh will have QR codes on their tags that display the water saved and carbon emitted during production. Due to this transparency, the demand for Bangladeshi garments is soaring in the global market.

Workers and the Environment

As the working environment in eco-friendly factories has improved, health risks for workers have decreased and productivity has increased. In 2026, Bangladesh’s garment industry demonstrated that industrialization can protect the environment instead of harming it.
