Environment and nature protection activities must be valued: says Environment Minister, Bangladesh
Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Bangladesh, said that if the growth trend of Bangladesh is to be sustainable, importance should be given to the protection of environment and nature.
“For this purpose, we have to work sincerely to prevent the loss and pollution of biodiversity. Bangladesh sets an example for the world on various issues, and green growth should also be a role model,” the minister added.
He said all this while addressing the chief guest at a seminar titled “Achieving Bangladesh’s Green Growth: Achieving the Dream Together” organized by the World Bank at a hotel in Banani in the capital Dhaka recently.
The environment minister said, “In order to implement the model green growth, various sectors should be made environment-friendly.”
“Not only will the GDP increase, the environment should also be fixed. If the pollution is high, there will be no growth. So, waste management should be improved.”
“Go for nature-based solutions. The private sector should come forward along with the government to protect the environment. In this case, the government will give incentives to the private sector. Everyone should realize the dream of building a green and sustainable Bangladesh,” the minister opined.
Shahiduzzaman, State Minister for Planning, Bangladesh, spoke as a special guest in the seminar.
Nahim Razzak, a member of the Parliament of Bangladesh, Professor AKM Maqsood Kamal, the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Abdoulaye Sek, the country Director of World Bank, and Fahmida Khanam, the Secretary of MOEFCC, Bangladesh, were present at the event.
