Integrated planning is essential for eco-friendly tourism and coastal zone protection
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, a leading environmentalist and advisor in Bangladesh’s Interim Government, in charge of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Bangladesh and the Ministry of Water Resources (MOWR), Bangladesh, said that it is essential to implement an integrated plan for eco-friendly tourism development and coastal zone protection.
She said that zoning of work in coastal areas should be done. Coastal Zone Management Rules and Special Management Plans should be prepared. The Bangladesh Coastal Zone Policy should also be updated.
She said these things at a seminar titled ‘Preparation of Eco-tourism-based Integrated Plan for Payra Port City and Kuakata Coastal Zone in Bangladesh’ at the conference held on December 5 in Dhaka.
The advisor mentioned that efforts are being made to create a law for land zoning and the protection of agricultural land. Coastal green belts in Bangladesh should be built.
Proper use of groundwater should be ensured, and waste management should be modernized. The use of single-use plastic should be stopped and afforestation activities should be increased.
During the seminar, Adilur Rahman Khan, an advisor to Bangladesh’s Ministry of Housing and Public Works and Ministry of Industries, suggested that project proposals should be revised to ensure long-term regional development.
Project Director Sharif Mohammad Tariquzzaman delivered an engaging presentation of the project proposal at the seminar. Professor Dr Shamsul Haque, Professor Dr Israt Islam and Professor Dr Mosleh Uddin Hasan of BUET discussed the article.
