Mastering Work-Life Balance: A New Culture of Wellness and Green Energy
By Dr. Nusrat Hafiz, Assistant Professor & Director, Women Empowerment Cell, BRAC Business School
Imagine waking up to the soft glow of morning light filtering through leafy branches, the air fresh with the scent of earth and dew. Yet inside, the mind races—emails to answer, deadlines to meet, family to care for—all while your own wellbeing takes a backseat. This tension between demands and self-care is a silent epidemic, affecting not just “working women” or “busy dads,” but anyone caught in the relentless pace of modern life: professionals overwhelmed by overtime, single parents managing every role alone, caregivers balancing love and exhaustion, students striving to keep up with growing pressures.
In a world that glorifies constant hustle, we rarely stop to ask: how can we recharge sustainably? What if the key lies not just in working harder, but in nurturing ourselves holistically—mind, body, and spirit—through green thinking and green energy?
At BRAC University’s Women Empowerment Cell (WEC), we believe empowerment starts with wellness—anchored in nature, mindfulness, and sustainable living. Our flagship program, Mastering Work-Life Balance, is a four-week in-campus journey designed to reconnect participants of all genders and all professions, with their inner energy and the natural world around them. We encourage harnessing the green power within—cultivating mental clarity and vitality inspired by the earth’s own rhythms.
This four-module in-campus program meets three hours per week. Each week, participants explore a new dimension of work-life synergy through frameworks like the Four Quadrants and the Five Steps to Better Work-Life Balance: Goal, Relationship, Commitment, Focus, and Project. They engage in role-plays, scenario simulations, guided yoga and reflection, and curated talks by psychologists and industry leaders, all within a community of care, accountability, and respect.
This program blends reflection, yoga, and nature-inspired wellness practices with the principles of sustainable living and environmental mindfulness. Guided yoga sessions help participants align body and mind, while discussions on green thinking promote a shift away from burnout culture toward regenerative energy—both personal and ecological.
Participants choose life-stage-aligned tracks—entrepreneurs, professionals, students, homemakers—each exploring how to cultivate balance tailored to their unique lives, grounded in respect for self and planet.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on health (SDG 3), gender equality (SDG 5), and decent work (SDG 8), this initiative advocates for rest, care, and wellness rooted in green power—promoting a culture where sustainable energy, mindful living, and work-life harmony coexist.
True balance emerges from embracing the simple goodness of caring for oneself and others, fueled by the restorative energy of green spaces and the empowering force of green thinking. Burnout is not a badge of honor. It’s time to rewrite our social grammar around work and life—with kindness, sustainability, and vitality.
