Hon’ble High Court of Bangladesh directed to close all sewage lines that drain to the Buriganga River by January 7, 2019.

Hon’ble High Court of Bangladesh directed to close all sewage lines that drain to the Buriganga River by January 7, 2019.

On both sides of the Buriganga River, there are 68 nos. of sewage lines of different companies including the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewage Authority (WASA) that drain to the river. There might be more sewage lines that are not known yet. The Hon’ble High Court has passed an order to close all the sewage lines including those identified or not yet by 7th January 2019.

By this time, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has been asked to submit a report to the Hon’ble High Court by closing the sewage lines. A division bench of the Hon’ble High Court comprising of Justice Gavindra Chandra Tagore and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order on 1st January 2019.
The Hon’ble High Court has said that Dhaka WASA will have to close all sewage lines including its own. This has been known from Advocate Monjil Morshed, the writ petitioner of the court.
