‘World Maritime Day 2026’ was celebrated in the country to support the growth of Bangladesh’s maritime industry, fair use of sea resources, and green maritime trade.
Following the theme from the International Maritime Organization (IMO)—”From Policy to Practice: Building Maritime Excellence“—there was a strong focus on using modern, eco-friendly technologies in ports and shipping.
The government has revealed that it will prioritize the protection of ocean biodiversity and the environment while building the Blue Economy.
Activities and Strategic Action Plans: The government has outlined several specific action plans to safeguard maritime trade and the coastal environment:
- Decarbonization and Ship Recycling: Efforts to decarbonize are being intensified to reduce carbon emissions across both inland and oceanic shipping routes. Furthermore, directives have been issued to strictly adhere to international standards in establishing an eco-friendly and world-class ship-recycling industry.
- Digital changes are happening at big seaports: They are using automated systems and digital tools to cut down waiting times for ships and save fuel. This helps reduce ocean pollution.
Bangladesh has a large sea area that can help grow the economy, but disorganized sea activities can really harm the environment.
Green Page believes that there is no other way to safeguard marine biodiversity and enforce strict environmental laws for the right growth of the Blue Economy.
