Garbage now turned into a beautiful flower garden, Cumilla, Bangladesh
In Cumilla town, there was a waste dump in the Export Processing Zone area of Tomcham Bridge-Medical Road. The stink of waste bothered pedestrians and locals. They have finally gotten rid of the annoyance.
Cumilla City Corporation removed the waste dump adjacent to the wall. Instead of waste, a lovely flower garden is now growing. The walls are getting painted. Various aesthetic installations, including the installation of lights, embellish the area.
Kabir Islam, a Pedestrian, said that “The side of the important road of the city had become a garbage dump for so long. Now the beautiful garden brings us peace. Many important institutions, including Ibn Taymiyya School and College, EPZ, Medical College, Hospital, Upazila Parishad, are on this road. The smell of dirt on the road was unbearable. The initiative of the city mayor is commendable.”
Md Ikram Hossain Iku, the inspector of Cumilla City Corporation Waste Management Department, regarding the issue said, “About 80 trucks of waste got removed from the pile of garbage on the side of the road.
As per the city mayor’s direction, the essential public road is beautified with flower gardens about 600 sq. feet. The city mayor himself has come a few times to oversee it.”
Monirul Haque Sakku, the Mayor of Cumilla City Corporation, said, “Since becoming the city’s mayor, I have always been working to make the city clean and beautiful.”
“We have planted flower gardens in various abandoned places in the alleys of the town. We now removed the garbage from the EPZ area and planted flowers,” he added.
“We have also installed separate boxes to throw dirt in them. We are trying to decorate the city like a flower garden,” he further said.
