Recently 380 new species were discovered in the Mekong Basin: Nature is still full of surprises

The Mekong River Basin in Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam) is a huge reservoir of biodiversity. Recently, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) reported that in the last two years, scientists have discovered about 380 new species of animals and plants that were completely unknown in this region.

The excitement of new life:

Surprising discoveries: These include a special blue chameleon, a new species of frog and some orchids that have never been seen before.

Threats: Scientists say that new species may go extinct before we even find them. This is due to things like unexpected dam building and cutting down forests in the Mekong River area.

This discovery proves how diverse our world is. The international community must act quickly to protect this invaluable ecosystem of the Mekong Basin.
