A training workshop focusing on snakebite prevention and treatment, as well as snake rescue and release, was held in Rajshahi to mark International Snakebite Awareness Day 2026.
Organized by the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Forum, the event took place today (Saturday, September 19, 2026) at 11:00 AM at Shah Makhdum College. Mohammad Faizul Kabir, Police Commissioner (DIG) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, attended as the chief guest.
Special guests were Professor Dr. Jalal Uddin Sardar, the first Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Rajshahi University; S.M. Rezaul Islam, Principal of Shah Makhdum College; and Masuma Mustari, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boalia Model Police Station, Rajshahi.
Md Jahangir Kabir, Wildlife Inspector from the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division, Rajshahi, and snake expert and researcher Borhan Biswas Roman served as trainers.
Engineer Junaid Ahmed, Founder and General Secretary of the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Forum, presided over the event.
In their talks, the guests highlighted many topics. They discussed how to identify venomous and non-venomous snakes in Bangladesh with pictures.
They also talked about snakebite statistics, the situations and reasons for snakebites, how well antivenom works, and ways to prevent snakebites and raise public awareness.
They also emphasized the importance of rescuing and releasing snakes—particularly those beneficial to the environment—instead of killing them.
The trainers provided hands-on training on snake rescue, handling, and release into the wild. During the discussion, they emphasized the importance of personal safety and protection. They also said it’s vital to have the right equipment for rescuing snakes.
