The Green Civic Movement ‘Green Voices’ has strongly urged ensuring a robust position for Bangladesh on the international stage, with a focus on the upcoming global climate conference, COP31, to be held in Antalya, Turkey, this November.
At a press conference held at the National Press Club, Dhaka, on 27 October 2026, the social and environmental organization called upon the government to adopt a firm diplomatic stance to ensure transparency and accountability in climate funds, and to secure ‘fair compensation’ within the global arena.
Demands and Strategic Framework: During the press conference, representatives of civil society presented a comprehensive framework for national and international negotiations:
Move away from Loans to Direct Grants: The organization insisted on ending the use of loans with interest from developed countries for funding projects. They pushed for getting grants—on better terms—directly from the ‘Loss and Damage’ fund.
Grassroots Adaptation and Administrative Transparency: Regarding the implementation of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP), the organization argued against an exclusive focus on mega-infrastructure. Instead, they called for the direct empowerment of marginalized communities—particularly those in coastal, drought-prone, andHaor (wetland) regions—and the inclusion of local civil society in the monitoring of climate projects.
Conclusion and ‘Green Page’ View: To succeed in climate talks, we need to include ideas from the community, not just depend on government officials.
‘Green Page’ says that, besides getting the right compensation at the COP31 summit, having high standards of good governance in the country’s climate budget is the main need for sustainable development.
