A Unified Global Stand Against Climate Change: Bangladesh Champions Renewable Energy and Climate Justice at the ‘Zero-Emission Ambition’ Summit

The global community has reached an unprecedented level of unity to address the severe impacts of global warming and climate change. At the ‘Zero-Emission Ambition’ summit on 18 October 2026 in Berlin, Germany, Bangladesh, a country very affected by climate change, took the lead in pushing for lower carbon emissions.

During the summit, Bangladesh and over 50 other countries joined a strong global group. They promised to reach net-zero emissions. Bangladesh not only reaffirmed its national pledge to expand renewable energy but also strongly advocated for ‘Climate Justice’ and the operationalization of a ‘Loss and Damage Fund’ to support nations disproportionately affected by climate change.

Strategic Framework of the Coalition and Bangladesh’s Stance: Here are the main goals of the new ‘Zero-Emission Ambition’ group and how Bangladesh is involved.

A Coordinated Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality: The member nations have developed a comprehensive roadmap to achieve complete carbon neutrality by 2050. This guide highlights the fast and step-by-step removal of fossil fuels, instead relying completely on renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower. Bangladesh is committed to making its national plans bolder to meet these goals and will persistently seek technology and funding from wealthy countries in global forums.

Strong steps to bring in global money for renewable energy and support its growth in the country: at the conference, the Bangladeshi team focused on attracting foreign investment in the renewable energy sector.  Bangladesh’s Government is set to begin new projects and quickly finish the ones already going to greatly raise the country’s solar and wind energy output. Furthermore, particular focus has been placed on expanding the use of solar home systems and solar-powered small-scale irrigation projects in remote, off-grid areas.

Bangladesh repeated the call for climate justice and a fund for loss and damage. At the conference, they stressed the important need for a good Loss and Damage Fund for countries hit hard by climate change. It was emphasized that providing such compensation is a moral obligation toward countries like Bangladesh—nations that have contributed almost nothing to carbon emissions, yet are bearing the brunt of the most severe consequences of climate change. The Prime Minister remarked, “Those responsible for climate change must bear the cost of the damage.” We wish to leave behind a habitable world for our future generations.

The “Zero-Emission Ambition” group is a good and timely step in the battle against climate change.

Green Page believes that this international endeavor creates a golden opportunity for Bangladesh—and all developing nations—to access the technology and financial support necessary to combat climate change. If Bangladesh shows real dedication to keeping the promises made at this conference and improves its national policies and action plans, it will not only protect the environment but also gain a strong role in global climate talks. These international commitments will serve as a significant milestone in building a green and sustainable future for Bangladesh.
