Bangladesh’s participation in the World Climate Conference (COP25)

Bangladesh’s participation in the World Climate Conference (COP25) has been effective and fruitful – Environment Minister Md. Shahab Uddin

Md. Shahab Uddin, the Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change said that Bangladesh’s participation in the World Climate Conference COP-25 has been effective and fruitful.

At this conference, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took over the responsibility of the Chairman of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF), an organization of the Climate Risk Countries for the period of 2020-21.



Last February 5, 2020, the Minister of Climate Change spoke this as the chief guest at the Chile-Madrid Climate Change Conference or Cop-25 in the conference room of the Department of the Environment: a workshop organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change with regard to expectations, attainments and future actions.

The Prime Minister highlighted the climate change activities of the Government of Bangladesh during the exchange of views at the Bangladesh Pavilion which is situated for the first time.

Bangladesh Pavilion is attractively decorated with various information about the activities of the climate change and the activities of the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund adopted by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change and other ministries and agencies and about the achievements related to economic development in the last years of the Government of Bangladesh for the father of the nation, the image of the country and the awareness of all.

Deputy Minister of the Environment, Forests and Climate Change Ministry Habibun Nahar, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Environment, Forests and Climate Change Ministry Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Secretary of the Defense Ministry Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury,

Chairman of the Rural Work Assistant Foundation Dr. Kazi Khalikuzzaman Ahmad, Director General of the Department of the Environment AKM Rafiq Ahammad and Additional Secretary of the Ministry (Climate Change) Mizanul Haque Chowdhury were present as the special guest and gave speech at the workshop chaired by Ziaul Hassan ndc, Secretary of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry.



It was not possible to agree on the formation of separate funds to provide specific financial support for the damage caused by climate change and discussion and decision-making about the loss and damage issue in both the Paris Agreement and the Climate Convention.

But a unanimous decision has been taken on a number of issues, including many decisions on this subject. Moreover, the conference welcomed the issue of giving 130 million dollars promised by the developed countries in the Adaptation Fund.

The Climate Change Minister said that even if the demand for climate compensation for the developed countries continues, the current government’s own financing for implementing programs to combat climate change will continue.

He said that in order to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of the prevention of climate change, this year (Mujib Year) hundreds of millions of trees will be planted in 492 Upazilas of the country.
