A large Dolphin found dead in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar

A huge dolphin weighing 160 kg has floated on Shahpari Island in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The local fishermen believe that the dolphin is dead as it did not move.
In the morning, people gathered to see the dolphin in the sea on the western side of Shahpari Island in Teknaf.
Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute authorities say it is a humpback species dolphin.
Dr. Ehsanul Karim, Senior Scientific Officer, Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, Cox’s Bazar, said it is known as the Indo-Pacific Bottle Nose (Humpback) Dolphin.
These species move in groups. It’s seemed, the dolphin fled off the coast of Teknaf in search of food and died of its injuries.
He said that this fish, which is 9-10 feet high, can weigh 160 kg. These fish are mainly found in the tropical waters of India and the western Pacific.
However, unlike most common bottled dolphins, these dolphins prefer shallow, coastal water. As a result, it is not uncommon to see this fish in the surrounding area.
Jasim Mahmud, a local journalist, said a dead dolphin was seen on the beach at Shahpari Island in Teknaf in the morning. At this time, people crowd to view it. Many have been seen taking pictures of it.
The dolphin was there for a long time. But the day before, local fishers saw another bloody species of fish and brought it into the deep sea.
Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil Mamun, chief executive of the Youth Environment Society (YES), an environmental organization in Cox’s Bazar, said dolphins were not supposed to die.
Maybe water pollution or fishermen’s trap can be the cause of its dead. To protect dolphins, it needs to be aware of the fishers and reduce water pollution.
