Hurricane Laura hits Louisiana-Texas, 14 killed
Sadman Sad
Strong Hurricane Laura has devastated the Louisiana and Texas coasts of the United States. Laura’s scars are scattered all over the coast and have killed 14 people in Louisiana and Texas. Ten of them died in Louisiana. And 4 people in Texas.
Although the death toll was low, the hurricane with a 240 km/hour has caused extensive damage. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost electricity. Millions of people have also flooded.
There was also a fire at a chemical warehouse in an industrial area. Louisiana Governor John Bell Edwards has asked the central government for urgent financial assistance to repair the power connection.
The Red Cross said thousands of homes were damaged in the two states. One and a half thousand members of the National Guard have deployed to remove the rubble.
The governors of Louisiana and Texas have called Hurricane Laura a “terrible disaster.” They said it would take some time to recover from the damage.
President Donald Trump will visit the affected areas on Saturday, August 29, 2020.
Laura rioted in Haiti before hitting the United States early Thursday morning. At least 31 people died there. Laura struck off the coast of Louisiana as the second-highest fourth-category hurricane in terms of severity. But when it hits the surface, its levels drop, turning it into a tropical storm.
