Agentic AI: Humans’ new ‘virtual partner’ in tackling climate disasters

Until now, AI has only answered questions, but in 2026, AI has now started working on its own. This is referred to as ‘Agentic AI’. At the beginning of 2026, the world’s major weather agencies and power grids have started relying entirely on this technology.

It not only provides general forecasts, but can also make decisions on its own to deal with potential disasters. If AI predicts less sunlight in an area over the next 3 days, it saves electricity from battery storage to balance the grid.

A report from January 2026 revealed that AI agents have cut the city’s electricity waste by 15-20%. It now makes decisions by simulating various climate scenarios using a ‘Digital Twin,’ a virtual model of the city.

In flood-risk areas, the drainage system automatically opens its lock gate and sends alerts to people’s mobile phones. It is capable of analyzing thousands of complex data in seconds without human intervention.

Economically, this technology is saving cities billions of dollars. In 2026, many developing countries are investing heavily in importing this technology to reduce post-disaster damage and use resources properly.

However, this ‘autonomous decision-making’ also raises ethical questions—if AI makes a wrong decision, who will take responsibility for it? Nevertheless, in 2026, agentic AI has now become the most modern and indispensable tool in the war against climate change.
