The speakers in a seminar said, “All coastal people should come forward to work ensuring sustainable development by utilizing marine resources, reducing marine pollution, protecting coral reefs, and creating mangrove forests along the entire coast.”

The seminar titled “People’s Engagement in Achieving Blue Economy,” held recently in Dhaka was organized by Save our sea, a non-governmental research organization. Muhammad Anwarul Haque, Secretary-General of Save Our Sea, hosted that event.

All speakers agreed that the recent fire in the Chattagram container yard had caused a major environmental catastrophe. Its effects will fall directly into the sea.

The sea continues to pollute in different ways at different times. Marine biodiversity is under the threat of greatly damaging the maritime economy. The speakers also said that it’s a need to set up a separate ministry to control pollution.

Prof. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, emphasized the need for concerted efforts to protect marine resources, saying that sustainable plans need to adopt and need to execute in every development.

The role of marine resources is most important for our lives and human existence. Mentioning that the river has a deep connection with the sea, the Vice-Chancellor further said that the water resources are being polluted due to various reasons, including industries.

This is harming the sea. As a result, marine fauna and biodiversity are under threat. The Vice-Chancellor called upon all to protect the marine resources, keep the surrounding natural environment clean and be aware of the prevention of river pollution.
