Millions of children are displaced due to floods and storms

From 2016 to 2021, 43.1 million children were displaced due to weather disasters caused by climate change such as floods, droughts, storms, and wildfires. The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, warned recently that it was not paying attention to the victims.

In a detailed report, the UN agency has detailed the heartbreaking stories of some affected children. Laura Healy, the report’s co-author, told the news agency AFP that the data revealed only “a small part”. Among these many more victims have not been accounted for.

From 2016 to 2021, global warming resulted in the displacement of 43.1 million children in 44 countries. This was caused by four types of climate disasters: floods, storms, droughts, and wildfires. And 95 percent of this displacement is due to floods and storms.

Laura Healy said, “This is the equivalent of nearly 20,000 children being displaced daily.”

The report mentions that children who are affected are in danger of facing other traumas, such as being separated from their parents or becoming victims of child traffickers.
