Sweden will assist Bangladesh in Tackling Climate Change Effects – Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh
Sweden will assist Bangladesh in issues related to renewable energy, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, prevention of salinity intrusion, development activities and adaptation and mitigation efforts to address the adverse effects of climate change.
This was stated by the Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander Berg von Linde, at a meeting organized at the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Bangladesh.
During the meeting, chaired by Shahab Uddin of MoEFCC, Bangladesh, the Swedish ambassador, added that Sweden would double its climate financing by 2025.
Mostafa Kamal, Secretary and Additional Secretaries of MoEFCC, Bangladesh and among others were present.
They also discussed cooperation in several other areas, including ecosystem management, sustainable environment, and conservation of biodiversity and tackling the adverse effects of climate change in Bangladesh.
According to a press release, the meeting focused on identifying cooperation between the two countries and moving forward together in the future.
Mr. Sahab Uddin said his ministry had finalized the extended Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and submitted the Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan. The Minister also said that Bangladesh is continuing to make the UN Environment Conference COP25successful.
He added that Bangladesh would be vocal in demanding the compensation of US$100 billion per year by the Developed countries to the developing countries as per Paris Agreement.
