Asian People’s Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) coordinator and convenor of the Asian Energy Network, Liddy Nakpil, said, “Billions of dollars worth of liquefied natural gas terminals, power plants, and pipeline expansion projects are underway in Asia.”
We don’t need these projects. They will create more problems than solve the climate and energy crises in the region because gas is just as harmful as coal.
Through the “Don’t Gas Asia” campaign, we are sending the message to governments, banks, and corporations to stop expanding gas and other fossil fuels. Convert to 100% renewable energy.’
Rich countries are giving fossil fuels to poor African and Asian countries under the guise of economic development, causing damage that may be impossible to reverse. Today, the journey of this “Don’t Gas Asia” campaign started together in ten Asian countries.
Sharmin Murshid said, “Fossil fuels are accelerating climate change. The government needs to realize that the faster we invest in renewable energy, the faster we can save this country from destruction.”
