Use of jute products should be increased to protect the environment
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, a leading environmentalist and advisor in Bangladesh’s Interim Government, in charge of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Bangladesh, and the Ministry of Water Resources (MOWR), Bangladesh, said, “We need to increase the use of jute products to reduce the harmful effects of polythene.”
“Increasing the multipurpose use of jute products is very important to ensure sustainable development. The government is working to make daily essential jute products easily available to the people at affordable prices,” she added.
During a visit to the Jute Diversification Promotion Center’s stall at the ‘Bahumukhi Jute Product Fair and Tat Basra (The Versatile Products from Jute Fair and Waiving cloths) )Fair-2025’ at Manipuri Para in Dhaka on March 18, the environmental advisor discussed the importance of promoting eco-friendly and sustainable jute products.
She said, jute is a symbol of our heritage and a potential sector of the eco-friendly economy. The government is providing policy support to revive the jute sector, but entrepreneurs must also come forward. She said these eco-friendly products should be distributed in the international market as well as the local market.
Sheikh Bashiruddin, Advisor to the Ministries of Textiles and Jute and Commerce, Bangladesh, reported that efforts are underway with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bangladesh, as well as other government departments of the country and private businesses, to promote the use of jute products.
The two advisors toured numerous stalls at the fair, enthusiastically highlighting the diverse applications of domestic jute products. Senior officials, including Zeenat Ara, Executive Director (Additional Secretary) of the Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC), was present at the time.
Entrepreneurs displayed various types of jute products at the fair, including bags, household items, fashion products, shoes and furniture.
