World Earth Day- 2025
April 22, 2025 marked World Earth Day. Earth Day has been celebrated every year on April 22nd since 1970. It is part of a global initiative coordinated by EARTHDAY.ORG .
This day focuses on raising awareness and motivating people globally to prevent environmental pollution, ensuring the planet remains habitable for all living beings, including humans.
Each year, a different theme is selected for Earth Day. The theme for Earth Day 2025 is: Our Power, Our Planet, which focuses on renewable energy.
This theme calls for everyone to unite around renewable energy to triple clean electricity by 2030.
“For years, we have been told that fossil fuels are the only source of electricity for the planet, and that is simply not true,” said Denis Hayes, the organizer of the first Earth Day.
“By 2030, solar energy will be the largest source of electricity on the planet,” said Kathleen Rogers, president of the Earth Day Organization.
“We need the power of the people to support a major shift to renewable energy,” she added.
“We encourage everyone to speak to their local mayors, neighbors, community leaders, and local and national legislators to support a major shift to renewable energy,” she said.
Hence, to protect the environment, we should gradually cut fossil fuel use, which is the main source of pollution, and switch to renewable energy. Our goal is to triple the production of renewable energy by 2023 compared to current levels.
