Biodiversity is on the verge of extinction because of natural hostility

Aivee-Akther-News-Ticker

Our mother nature has started to change, so makes the living of people. People are nowadays constantly facing difficult realities. They have to adapt to the existing hostility of the environment to ensure survival.

Once upon a time, people used to depend solely on nature for their living. Now, the destructive turnover of mother nature has changed the scenario.

People now can hardly adapt to the environment. There was a time when nature used humans with its resources, and humans would get more than they asked. But now, nature has become a curse and taking more than ever.

Biodiversity is on the verge of extinction because of natural hostility. Experts blame global warming for these changes. Because of climate change, the appearance of nature is changing, especially in the coastal areas of Bangladesh.

The life and livelihood of the people there are constantly facing a difficult reality. Every day they are struggling to cope with a hostile environment.

Due to the changing climate, the frequency of disasters has increased. People who live near the coast suffered most from disaster strikes.

Disasters kill thousands of people every year in coastal areas, causing the loss of properties livestock worth billions of money. Families who become homeless start living in boats spend their days half-starved. We call them Climate refugees.

In the evolution of time, various changes have taken place in the lifestyle of the coastal region. Every person’s profession is changing. Those who used to sell fish for years are switching to other occupations. Some moved to cities.

Farmers no longer move towards farming. It became difficult to make a living through agriculture. They are losing their homelands.

People are losing their traditions. Natural resources are declining. People are thriving from drinking water.

Amid all these, the sea level is rising alarmingly. Slowly we are losing the greatest asset of our country, the Sundarbans.

People who depend on natural resources are moving towards food insecurity. Heavy rains, droughts, untimely rains, droughts are seriously affecting all kinds of occupations. The duration of the monsoon period also messed up.

More than 40 million people live in 19 coastal districts in Bangladesh, 32 percent of the country’s area. Nature’s pace is changing rapidly in these risky areas due to climate change.

People’s chances of survival are declining. The misery and poverty of nature-dependent poor people are increasing. These are due to climate change, which ordinary people are not aware of yet.

According to a study by Oxford University, 35 million people in Bangladesh will be homeless by 2050 due to changes in monsoon winds, erratic rainfall, droughts, floods, rising sea levels, and increasing coastal tides.

Professor Norman Myris, a climate scientist at Oxford University, fears that climate change could displace some 200 million people in the world in the next 40 years by 2050. In addition, most of the displacement will happen in Bangladesh.

The temperature is constantly rising. One of the causes of climate change is the increased temperature in the atmosphere. And the reason for the increase in temperature in the atmosphere is the reaction of greenhouse gases.

Generally, some of the heat energy that comes to the Earth’s surface from the sun heats the Earth, and most of it is dissipated and goes back into the atmosphere.

However, the massive accumulation of carbon dioxide, Methane, etc., in the atmosphere hinders the heat radiation of the Earth’s surface, and these gases absorb heat. As a result, the surface is constantly heating up.

Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, Methane, Nitrous Oxide, chlorofluorocarbons, etc., radiate heat from the Earth’s surface. This heat gets absorbed and emitted by these gases in the planet’s atmosphere in the form of infrared radiation.

As a result, it warms the atmosphere and the surface. The Earth’s normal amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is about 33 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit) lower than the surface air temperature, which will reduce in their absence.

The Earth’s average temperature without the Earth’s atmosphere will be less than the temperature of the water.

The main greenhouse gases are:

  • Water vapor causes about 36-70% of the greenhouse effect,
  • Carbon dioxide, which causes 9-26%,
  • Methane, which causes 4-9%, and
  • Ozone, which causes 3-7%.

As the sun is the primary energy source on Earth, changes in incoming sunlight directly affect the climate system.

Solar immunity has been measured directly by satellite since 1978, but indirect measurements may have begun as early as the 1600s. There is no upward trend in solar energy reaching the Earth.

Therefore, it is not responsible for the current warming. Physical climate models cannot reproduce rapid warming in recent decades by simply considering solar output and volcanic activity variations.
