Priority will be given to innovative projects in the Bangladesh Climate Change Fund
Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOFECC), Bangladesh, said, “Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund (BCCT) funding research and innovation projects will be given priority.”
“Initiatives will be taken to take up the required number of projects in more climate-vulnerable areas. For this purpose, the relevant laws and regulations will be amended,” She added.
The secretary said these things in a workshop at the Sirdap International Conference Center, Dhaka, on January 11, 2024.
“The BCCT and the Ministry will take some steps based on the recommendations of experts to make the activities of BCCT more acceptable to the people. Based on this report, initiatives will be taken to increase the skills of the project stakeholders,” She continued and said.
She called upon the enterprising organization to continue such activities even after the completion of the project funded by the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust.
In the workshop, the final draft report and recommendations of the evaluation of 45 projects were presented in detail by Dr. Fazle Rabbi Sadek Ahmed, Climatologist and the leader of the evaluation team.
He said, “To achieve better results in climate change adaptation and mitigation projects, the BCTC needs to work quickly to streamline project management activities, from proposal receipt to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. BCCT’s fund usage guidelines along with relevant laws must be strictly followed.”
Dr. Fazle Rabbi also said that the implementation of projects to reduce the risk of climate change in the country, as well as participation in global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The effectiveness and long-term sustainability of the project or program should be the main objective from initiation to completion.
