Bangladesh Government to Train 32000 Farmers on Climate Adaptation in Five Districts

“Bangladesh Government to Train 32,000 Farmers on Climate Adaptation in Five Districts”

The Bangladesh government has taken an initiative to train 32,000 farmers on climate change adaptation strategies by selecting 800 farmer groups in nine Upazilas across five districts. This information was revealed during a National Validation Workshop held on September 28, in Khamarbari, Dhaka.

The workshop, organized by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bangladesh, for the “Building Climate Resilient Livelihoods in Vulnerable Landscapes in Bangladesh (BCRL)” project, concentrated on “Vulnerability Risk Assessment.” The event’s chief guest was Md Tazul Islam Patwary, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bangladesh.

The workshop mentioned that the project is led by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Bangladesh, with technical support from the FAO and funding from the GEF.

The project, with a total cost of BDT.660 million, is set to be completed by June 2028. The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bangladesh, received BDT.560 BDT, and the Department of Environment (Bangladesh), received BDT.100 million.



The workshop also revealed that farmers from different parts of the country such as Godagari in Rajshahi, Nachole and Bholahat in Chapainawabganj, Dumuria, Batiaghata, and Paikgacha in Khulna, Kawkhaly in Rangamati, and Manikchhari and Sadar Upazila in Khagrachhari will be trained on climate adaptation strategies. After assessments, necessary agricultural inputs will be provided based on their needs.

The project aims to create general and women entrepreneurs by developing market connections to ensure fair prices for agricultural products and mapping the value chain.

The workshop was chaired by Md Nurul Islam, Director of the Planning, Project Implementation, and ICT Wing of DAE, Bangladesh. The keynote presentation was delivered by Dr Md Ramiz Uddin, a professor at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Bangladesh.

Officials from various levels across five districts and nine Upazilas participated in the event. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Mohammad Lokman Hossain Mozumder, Component Director of the DAE, Bangladesh, section of the project, with active participation from stakeholders.
