Dialogue on climate change and environment protection in Dhaka
On October 2, a dialogue on climate change and environmental peace was held in Dhaka. The Films for Peace Foundation hosted this dialogue.
In this, under the Youth Engagement in Democracy and Human Rights project, the Foundation for Humanity was in full cooperation.
The dialogue organized two panel discussions: one on climate change and environmental justice, and the other on environmental justice and human rights.
The first dialogue session on ‘Climate Change and Environmental Justice and Peace’ was moderated by Parvez Siddiqui, Executive Director of Films for Peace Foundation.
It was attended by Mir Muhammad Ali, Assistant Professor, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University at Dhaka; Shamim Ara Shiuli, Country Representative of the Internews; Sadia Jahan, Activist of the Environmental and Climate Rights; and Jasmima Sabatina, Executive Member of Brighters.
The second dialogue ‘Environmental Justice and Human Rights Impact’ session was moderated by Md. Sajjad Hoson, Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator, Foundation for Humanity.
Present as panelists were – The Earth Executive Director Mohammad Mamun Mia, Sawab Foundation Chief Executive Mohammad Aftabuzzaman, Oxfam in Bangladesh Climate Justice and Natural Resource Rights Project Program Officer Rubaiya Nasreen Sejuti and SRM Youth Watch co-founder Asima Kamal Mouni.
The dialogue highlighted key points on youth empowerment, policy inclusion, and organizing youth in marginalized areas to address climate change.
The youths urged the government to support those working on environmental and climate issues, both domestically and internationally, by recognizing them as collaborators. By doing this, the youth can be more efficient and play an important role in preventing climate change.
