Standing in the water in Satkhira, Bangladesh, demanding climate justice
The volunteer organization ‘Volunteers for Bangladesh’ has held a ‘Global Climate Strike’ program in Satkhira to protect the world from the terrible effects of climate change and to demand a sustainable environment.
On April 17th, at 10:30 am, young members of the organization participated in the program by standing in the water in the Binerpota area of the suburbs, holding posters with environmentally friendly messages. They raised slogans including ‘There’s no Planet B’, ‘Stop Climate Change’, ‘Solution Not Pollution’ and others to demand climate justice.
The organization’s president Ibrahim Khalil, former president and environmental activist Hossain Ali, volunteer Israt Jahan Faria and others spoke at the event.
The speakers said that climate change is having the greatest impact on areas like the coastal district of Satkhira of Bangladesh. Local people’s lives and livelihoods are threatened by rising sea levels, salinity, river erosion, and heavy rainfall.
The people of this district are directly feeling the impact of climate change. Therefore, they expressed hope that world leaders will take more effective and urgent steps to address this crisis.
We must be the first to come forward to save the environment. We must let nature be as nature is, because nature moves at its own pace. And if this pace is obstructed, suffering will increase.
Of all the animals on earth, humans are the greatest. But it is these humans who are responsible for this pandemic of climate change.
Humans are increasingly harmful elements in the environment and destroying environmentally friendly elements. Humans are indeed moving towards modernization, but they are not becoming environmentally friendly. And for this, each of us must be aware from our own place.
