World Bicycle Day is coming on 3 June. The United Nations designated 3rd June as “World Bicycle Day” by a resolution adopted at its 72nd regular session on 12 April 2018. Since then, the day has been observed worldwide with due respect.
Since its invention, the bicycle has not remained merely a personal vehicle; it has become an important and reliable means of public service. Over time, with various models and the integration of modern technologies, the bicycle has become more advanced and effective. Today the use of bicycles has increased significantly for education, workplaces, and daily commuting. As a simple, comfortable, safe, and environmentally friendly mode of transport, the bicycle has gained wide popularity.
The form of the modern bicycle we see today has evolved over centuries. People now use bicycles not only out of necessity but also for recreation and travel. Experts say cycling helps maintain physical health and plays a positive role in keeping young people away from drug addiction. Therefore, cycling should be promoted as a means of healthy living, fulfilling dreams, and protecting the environment.
In many developed countries, including Great Britain, people have chosen bicycles to keep the environment pollution‑free. In Great Britain, experimental charging methods are being used in vehicles as an alternative to fuel to protect the environment. The British government plans to phase out fuel‑powered vehicles after 2030.
Many people travel by bicycle in different countries around the world. Several young people from Bangladesh have already gained attention by traveling the country by bicycle. A few young Bangladeshis are planning world tours by bicycle. Five members of our “Lal‑Shobuj Cycling Club” are preparing to cycle across Bangladesh in January 2027. Our goal is to travel the world thereafter.
On World Bicycle Day everyone hopes that bicycles will become a reliable daily means of transport for necessity and recreation, and that through cycling the name of Bangladesh will spread across the globe.
