Bangladesh High Court’s ruling on removal of hazardous waste from Sunamganj’s Chatak area
According to the Environmental Protection Act, the High Court has ruled that removing hazardous waste from Sunamganj’s Chhatka area will not be ordered.
The Local Government Secretary, the Environment, Forest, and Climate Change ministry’s Secretary, the Health Secretary,
the Sunamganj District Commissioner, the Zilla Parishad Chairman, the Chatak Executive Officer, the Upazila Chairman, and the Chatak Gobindganj-Saidergao Chairman have been given four weeks to respond to the rule.
At the same time, the court ordered to submit a report on the steps taken to remove the waste within 60 working days.
The High Court of Justice Mohammad Ullah and Justice AKM Rabiul Hasan gave this order along with the ruling after hearing a writ.
Lawyers Ainun Nahar Siddika and Md. favored the application in the court. Nazmul Karim. Representing the state was Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder.
Blast informed on September 20, 2023, that there are heaps of waste material at the railway gate of Gobindganj point of Gobindganj-Saidergao Union, Suhitpur and Nutanbazar and Chatak Townsova and Jawa Bazar entrances,
which are harmful to people especially the health and life of school going students and due to this situation, there is a constant problem. He is facing a moral crisis.
This writ was filed because the defendants failed to fulfill their legal obligations in implementing the Bangladesh Solid Waste Management Rules 2021 in Sunamganj, Bangladesh.
