Palm saplings on the premises of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) in Bngldesh, have been planted by the Rajshahi Divisional Committee of the ICT Employees Society of Bangladesh (ICTESB), a group for ICT graduates and workers. News Press release.
To reduce the increasing risk of lightning in the country and to protect climate and biodiversity, a palm-tree saplings planting programme was inaugurated on 28/08/2026 at 5 pm on the premises adjacent to the main gate of RUET. RUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. SM Abdur Razzak was present as the chief guest at the programme.
RUET Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Student Welfare Director Professor Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam Sarkar and Executive Director of Center for Global Environment and Development Dr. Md. Abdul Wahab. ICT Employees Society of Bangladesh, Rajshahi Divisional Committee (ICTESB)’s president, Prof. Junaid Ahmed, presided over the event.
ICTESB Secretary General and Head of Mechatronics Engineering Department, RUET Prof. Md. Firoz Ali conducted the event.

Assistant Professor Md Yakub Ali from the Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE) Department at RUET, Assistant Professor Alok Kumar Pal from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department at RUET, and Riyad Khan Ratul, Md Lablu, and Afridi Khan from the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Forum, along with teachers, students, and staff from RUET were at the event.
The Center for Global Environment and Development (CGED) provided overall support to ensure the palm tree planting programme a success.
