Construction materials should be covered to prevent air pollution: Environment Advisor, Bangladesh
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, advisor to the Ministries of Environment and Water Resources, Bangladesh, announced that legal action will be taken against anyone who burns waste in open areas like Matuail landfill and Aminbazar landfill. Action will be taken against the government and private individuals responsible for burning waste.
The environment advisor said these things at a view-sharing meeting organized at the conference room of the Ministry of Environment at the Bangladesh Secretariat on April 23, 2025. The meeting discussed coordinated steps to control air pollution in Dhaka.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that construction materials should be covered to prevent air pollution. Sand and construction materials should be transported covered.
Otherwise, action will be taken. For this purpose, the magistrates of the Department of Environment, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), Dhaka’s two City Corporations and other relevant organizations will work together.
The advisor said that it is necessary to ensure that service providers do not dig roads separately. A ‘No Brick Field Zone’ is set to be established. Water will be sprinkled on the roads and their surroundings. If the law is not followed, a special drive will be launched based on the region.
Rizwana Hasan also said that the city must be made green. Grass should be planted on the road dividers. Air pollution must be reduced for future generations. People must be involved in the work.
The meeting, led by Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, included attendees such as Md Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, Secretary of the Local Government Division; Md Nazrul Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Works; Engineer Md Riazul Islam, Chairman of RAJUK; Md Yasin, Chairman of BRT; Md Shamim Akhtar, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department; Dr. Fahmida Khanam, Additional Secretary (Environment); and Dr. Kamruzzaman, Director General of the Department of Environment, among others.
