A two-day international climate conference has started in Dhaka. The goal is to improve the country’s ability to handle climate change with better planning, carbon markets, and green financing.
The ‘Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership (BCDP) Knowledge Conference 2026’ officially began on 7 October 2026 at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital, organized jointly by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Policymakers and international partners have gathered at this conference to strengthen the country’s environmental sector.
Conference Agenda and Partnership Framework: Initiated with an opening address by Environment Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, the conference is addressing several key strategic issues:
- National Adaptation and NDC 3.0 Implementation: The conference emphasizes the collective contributions of the private sector, academia, and civil society toward achieving the targets of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0). In particular, a framework is being developed to expedite project implementation by reducing delays in the disbursement of climate funds.
- Carbon Markets and Energy Sustainability: Talks have taken place about plans to obtain help from international experts and funding to transition the country’s energy from fossil fuels to green energy.
Domestic funding alone isn’t enough to deal with climate change. We need strong global and regional partnerships.
Green Page believes that using the knowledge and funding from the BCDP conference in real situations will make it much easier to handle climate risks in Bangladesh.
