‘Leaders’ representing South West Coast Of Bangladesh at COP-28
First, 154 countries signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCCC) in 1992 to combat the harmful effects of humans on the climate.
Since then, the Conference of the Parties (COP) on Climate Change has been held annually. Discuss exactly how to mitigate the harmful effects of climate change and monitor what progress has been made.
It is to be noted that the Loss and damage fund was signed at COP 27 held in Egypt last year, a big achievement for Bangladesh and other climate-vulnerable countries.
The Southwest Coastal region of Bangladesh is constantly facing various crises due to climate change. Following this, Mr. Mohan Kumar Mondal, Executive director of Satkhira ‘s non-governmental development organization LEDARS, and Mr. Kaushik Roy, project coordinator, joined the COP-28 Dubai conference to highlight the climate crisis, suffering, and deprivation of coastal people and the struggle for survival of people in the international community.
Both will highlight the coastal climate crisis before the world and play an active role in realizing coastal people’s rights based on climate justice.
The COP-28 conference began on November 30, 2023, and will continue until December 12, 2023. Mr. Mohan Kumar Mandal will speak as a speaker at an event on December 10, 2023, during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week of the COP-28 conference.
In the COP-28 Conference from December 8 to December 11, 2023, there is an exhibition stall of LEDARS in Booth No. 15. Also, on December 9, 2023, there is a side event in Room No. 3 through which the plight of coastal people will be reported to the international community.
