The building and construction sector is responsible for 21% of greenhouse gas emissions

The building and construction sector is responsible for 21 percent of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Experts predict that buildings will have a greater impact on the climate in the future. This is mainly due to the increased amount of sunlight in the Global South.

Yet no roadmap has been developed for the building and construction sector to achieve decarbonization by 2050. Recently, this information was presented at an international conference in Paris, the capital of France.

Building and Construction Sector the Global Forum on Buildings and Climate has organized a conference on March 7 and 8 in Paris, capital of France, to bring together ministers and high-level representatives of key organizations from different countries in order to achieve decarbonization and resilience of the building sector. This is the first such conference in the world.



R A M Obaidul Moktadir Chowdhury, Minister, Ministy of Housing and Public Works, Bangladesh, as a member of the international advisory group at the invitation of the French government.  is leading the delegation in the conference.

He is being provided technical support by the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Bangladesh, Kazi Washi Uddin, the Bangladesh Embassy in Paris and the Project Director of Dhaka’s Detail Area Plan (DAP) and Ashraful Islam, Chief Urban Planner of Rajuk, Bangladesh.

He told the Desh Rupantor, a Bangali Daily Newspaper in Bangladesh, that about 400 representatives, including Bangladesh, around 28 governments of the world, the European Commission, various organizations of the United Nations, environmental workers, entrepreneurs involved in building construction and various NGO workers participated in the building breakthrough initiative.

“They will approve a framework for global decarbonization of the building sector and building resilience to climate change,” he added.
