The brick kilns need to make eco-friendly blocks
The government has taken various initiatives to protect the environment, said the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Bangladesh, Mr. Mostafa Kamal. He said the country’s conventional brick kilns need to produce environmentally friendly blocks.
And that’s how the ebbs have to prepare. The government is committed to reducing conventional bricks to zero quotas by 2025 for environmental protection. In this case, the government is considering providing various incentives to block-producing entrepreneurs.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a workshop on FAL-G Brick Production, Exhibition, and Training Project held at the auditorium of the Department of Environment on December 20, 2021.
“Environmental protection is now a constitutional obligation,” he said. Environmental protection is also a prerequisite for international trade.
Therefore, instead of the conventional burnt bricks, which seriously pollute the environment, eco-friendly block bricks or FAL-G bricks made of fly ash, lime and gypsum should be made.
“The government will take necessary steps to ensure the use of environmentally friendly construction materials in all cases,” he said.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry (Climate Change) spoke as a special guest at the meeting chaired by Ashraf Uddin. Mizanul Haque Chowdhury, Additional Secretary (Environment), said. Moniruzzaman, Additional Secretary (Development) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik and Khalilur Rahman, Acting President of Bangladesh Brick Owners Association.
Dr. Fahmida Gulshan, the Professor, Department of Materials and Metallurgy, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), presented the FAL-G block and Md. Akhtar Hossain Sarkar, Former Principal Research Officer, Housing and Building Research Institute, Dhaka, presented the other block technology. Representatives and experts from various departments and agencies also spoke in the meeting.
