The Sundarbans may submerge in the future: Habibun Nahar, Deputy Minister of MoEFCC (BD)
Habibun Nahar, Deputy Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Bangladesh, said, ‘If we do not ensure adequate afforestation now, the Sundarbans will submerge one day.’
The deputy minister said these while attending the second-anniversary celebration of Environment Club Bangladesh as a chief guest at the National Press Club, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
“We all need to be aware and work together to prevent catastrophic conditions on the environment. To protect the environment, everyone should come forward for environment-friendly work, including forestry,” the deputy minister added.
Highlighting the importance of counting tigers, the Deputy Minister said, “The striped stripes on the tiger’s body are different, as one of us does not match the fingerprint of the other. But some would say, Why count tigers? Besides, we all know that cutting down trees causes irreparable damage to the environment. Yet we are polluting the environment. It’s time to plant more trees.”
Referring to the global environmental threat posed by high carbon emissions from industrialized countries, she said, “None of us can save ourselves from this threat alone. Everyone must face this threat unitedly.
During the program, seven organizers have received an award as ‘Environment Friend’ for their remarkable contribution to creating environmental protection awareness.
