National Environment Olympiad will be held for the first time in Bangladesh

National Environment Olympiad will be held for the first time in Bangladesh.

MTB National Environment Olympiad will be held for the first time in the country. Bangladesh Environmentalists Society will organize this Olympiad to increase public awareness of environmental protection, environmental pollution control, climate change, and sustainable development.

On July 27, 2023, the Organization informed this in a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters Unit.



FM Asraful Alam, Director of Education and Professional Development of the Environment Society said, “The Olympiad will have online competition at the regional level.”

On July 29, 2023, the national-level competition will hold at the Agargaon Institute of Architecture in the capital of Bangladesh.

The prize distribution and closing ceremony will be held on the same afternoon. Bangladesh, Habibun Nahar, Deputy Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, will be present as the chief guest at the award ceremony.

“Environment Science studying Students in different Universities in the country can participate in the Olympiad,” he informed, and the students’ registration link is https://forms.gle/QAiMC6frUKxTuvpk9.



He also informed the subjects of competitions in the Olympiad. The topics are – World Environment Day (1972-2023), Rio Earth Summit, National and International Environmental Organizations, Bangladesh’s Current Environmental Laws and Policies, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Development Goals, Blue Economy and Climate Smart Cities, Natural Disasters, and Disaster Management.

Climate Change, Sea Level Rise and Bangladesh, Water, Sanitation and Waste Management, Environmental Pollution-Air, Water, Rivers, Noise, Plastics, Recent Environmental Threats and Actions Taken in Bangladesh.

Professor Md. Sirajul Islam, Maulana Bhasani, the University of Science and Technology’s Treasurer, said, “We will survive if the environment keeps safe.



We need environment and development. Development should be done keeping the environment in order. This Olympiad will play a role in creating awareness on these issues.”

Ziaur Rahman, Chief Operating Officer of PDCA International Ltd., the consultant of this program, spoke at the conference. Abu Zubair, Executive Director, and Sheikh Abu Zahid, Director of Administration and Finance of the Environmentalist Society, also spoke at the conference.
