Climate activists strike in Dhaka to demand stop the use of fossil fuels and expansion of renewable energy.
Young climate activists have held a global climate strike to demand an end to the use of fossil fuels and the expansion of renewable energy.
From the climate strike held in front of the Bangladesh National Press Club on October 2, 2023, the Fridays for Future Bangladesh and Youthnet for Climate Justice workers raised the demand to stop funding fossil fuels and reduce the country’s dependence on LNG imports.
According to a press release, this climate strike is celebrated worldwide with the call of ‘Fridays for Future’, a school student movement founded by Swedish environmentalist Greta Thunberg. As part of this, a strike was organized at the Bangladesh National Press Club.
The young climate activists on strike said the world is going through a critical time due to the catastrophic effects of climate change. To get out of this situation, the global temperature increase should be limited to 1.5 degrees by the Paris Climate Agreement.
In addition, multinational corporations must now take initiatives to reduce carbon emissions without investing in fossil fuel businesses.
Governments and investors must take responsibility for the climate-damaging activities of using harmful fossil fuels and immediately move away from them and significantly increase the use of renewable energies.
