Kashmir is witnessing the worst form of climate change
This summer, the situation is sweltering in valley Kashmir as well. People from all over India and the world flock to Kashmir to enjoy the cold, now they cannot keep clothes on their body. The day’s temperature reached a record high in several parts of Indian Kashmir.
Even Kashmir’s Srinagar experienced its hottest July day in over two decades on July 08. Officials of the Meteorological Department of Jammu and Kashmir said so.
Srinagar had the highest July temperature in 25 years on that day, reaching a maximum of 35.6 degrees Celsius, the highest since 1999. At that time, the temperature was 37 degrees Celsius.
Meteorological department officials said that the daytime temperature in the city was 6 degrees above normal this season. Kashmir was hotter than any other city in India on July 08.
Delhi’s highest temperature on July 08, 2024 was 34.1 °C. Kolkata reached 31.2 °C, Mumbai 33 °C, and Bangalore 28.8 °C.
The temperature in Srinagar city was 34.6 degrees Celsius last July 09 and Srinagar felt hotter than Kolkata.
Because, the maximum temperature in Kolkata was 31 degrees Celsius. In that case, Srinagar also recorded the second-highest temperature in July on that day.
Other parts of the valley also witnessed extreme temperatures. The mercury was 34.4 degrees Celsius in Kazigund and 34.5 degrees Celsius in Kupwara.
The highest temperature was recorded in the valley on July 08, 2024, Met office officials said. That is at least 4.5 to 6.9 degrees above the normal temperature.
Temperatures are rising, and it’s been very hot in the valley recently. This has resulted in water shortages in many areas.
The Jammu and Kashmir Health Department has also issued a set of recommendations to deal with the heat wave situation. The school education department has already announced the next 10-day summer holiday for schools in the valley from July 10.
As a result of the intense heat, the common people of the valley are also staying indoors. Not going out unless absolutely necessary. Meanwhile, the heat has led to a sudden surge in sales of air conditioners (ACs), fans and coolers in places like Kashmir.
Common commuters are also facing difficulties, especially in commuting between cities. Many are turning to AC service providers to make their journey comfortable.
The Meteorological Department has predicted that the temperature may drop slightly on July 06. Because light to moderate rain or thunder showers are likely in many places.
This forecast has provided a ray of hope for the people struggling with the oppressive heat. However, it’s important to still take necessary precautions and stay prepared for potential changes in the weather.
