This concept aims to enhance a city’s capacity to collect, store, and reuse rainwater using green infrastructure and sustainable urban planning. Several cities in China have begun large-scale sponge city projects to address flooding and water scarcity in densely populated areas.

New York City has focused on creating green infrastructure, such as bioswales and green streets. Meanwhile, Singapore has integrated rainwater harvesting systems and water recycling into its urban design, boosting the city’s climate resilience.

The Need for Sponge Cities in Dhaka:
