In the chief guest’s speech, M Helal said highlighted the physical, mental, and economic importance of cycling. He said cycling is safe, cost-effective, and highly effective in physical fitness.

At the start of his speech, Environmentalist Engr Md Mahfuzur Rahman gave a heartfelt thanks to the founders of the Bangladesh Cycle Lane Bastabayan Pharished, specifically the founder president Md Aminul Islam Tubbus, and all those who have been participating in this social movement through sacrifices. He said that its achievements in the first era might seem less when viewed externally, but its achievements are immense when viewed socially.

When the Bangladesh Cycle Lane Bastabayan Pharished movement started an era ago, its demands seemed unrealistic to many; maybe some even laughed at it. But in this era, this demand has not only been accepted by society but has been realized by a large part of society that it is essential for reducing urban traffic congestion, fossil fuel saving, physical fitness development, and environmental pollution reduction.

He said that the main idea of many people is that where there is no space for ordinary motor vehicles and rickshaws on our city’s roads, there is always a traffic jam; how can there be a separate bicycle lane on such a narrow road? He said there is a conceptual error in the matter because of the narrow road width, and people should move only on bicycles and on foot instead of other vehicles in developed countries.

If cycle lanes can be started on the busiest roads of the capital, even if it is a narrow width, then to save travel costs and avoid traffic jams, people will be forced to turn to bicycles instead of other vehicles gradually, and all those roads will be converted into cycle lanes gradually. If this continues, people’s dependence on bicycles will increase everywhere in the country.

This will save the cost of transportation for the people, reduce the import of fossil fuel i.e., petrol, diesel, octane powered vehicles, and fossil fuel which will save valuable foreign currency of the country, the citizens of the country will become healthy and longer bodies which will increase the performance of the citizens and reduce the cost in the health sector, All in all, reducing urban traffic congestion will increase working hours and improve mental health.

Engr Md. Mahfuzur Rahman also said that the absence of safe bicycle parking is the main obstacle to the movement of citizens by bicycle in the country, including urban areas. Nowhere in the country is there a sound system of safe bicycle packing.

If there was a sound bicycle parking system, the rate of cyclists in the country would have increased at least 50 times compared to the present. If any such cyclists are on the roads, all the streets would gradually be automatically converted into cycle lanes.

Therefore, he strongly demanded the provision of safe bicycle parking in markets, educational institutions, offices, courts, parks, public gathering places, roadsides, and road junctions.

Fakrul Hossain, manager of Brain and Life Hospital, Dhaka, said that a person who travels on a bicycle is healthy and never gets diabetes. He said that because of the immense importance of cycling in building good health and preventing drug addiction, Brand and Life Hospital is always participating in all the Bangladesh Cycle Lane Bastabayan Pharished, helping to make all its programs successful.

Tanya Sultana Happy, Information and Research Secretary of Bangladesh Jubo Mahila League said cycling improves the environment and physical and mental health and is also cost-effective.

Didar Hossain Patwari, General Secretary of Bangladesh Tourist Cyclist, said that the Bangladesh Cycle Lane Bastabayan Pharished had been involved in this movement since its inception and described some of the experiences of various programs in the past.

In the Chair speech, Md. Aminul Islam Tubbus, President of Bangladesh Cycle Lane Bastabayan Pharished, said an Era ago, on his birthday on a Friday, he originated “Bangladesh Cycle Lane Bastabayan Pharished” in collaboration with some bi-cycle lovers’ friends.

Therefore, the birthday of Bangladesh Cycle Lane Implementation Parishad means his birthday, and both are intertwined with his life. He said that when the Bangladesh Cycle Lane Implementation Council started different programs by demanding the establishment of separate cycle lanes on each roadside in Dhaka city, many people began laughing about it, and some called it crazy.

But gradually, our demands moved a large part of society. Many started expressing solidarity by establishing separate bicycle lanes on the roads as fuel-free vehicles to reduce the country’s traffic congestion, improve physical and mental health, and improve the environment.

For 12 years of the Bangladesh Cycle Lane Bastabayan Pharished, many prominent individuals have participated in various programs in the country. The prominent individuals that were participated in the different programs of Bangladesh Cycle Lane Bastabayan Pharished, some names are cited below,

Md. Aminul Islam Tubbus also said, already expressing solidarity with our movement, the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation, Mr. Atiqul Islam, has established a separate cycle lane on the road in Agargaone, Dhaka.

Also, a separate cycle lane on a road of Dhaka University has been established under the initiative of Professor Arifin Siddique. In this way, he expressed hope that separate cycle lanes will establish on all the country’s roads shortly.

Md. Shahiduzzaman Badal, Director of Dhaka Photographic Institute, said he hoped to make a documentary about the various Bangladesh Cycle Lane Bastabayan Pharished lanes programs.

Besides, General Secretary of Dhaka Cultural Parishad Muktar Hossain, Royal Fitness Studio Chief Executive Kazi Kayes gave important speeches, and President of Dhanmondi Tourist Cyclist Mohtahjat Hossain conducted the event.

At the end of the event, an iftar mahfil followed by prayers was held. After the iftar, a cake was cut commemorating the 12th anniversary of the Bangladesh Cycle Lane Bastabayan Pharished, and the program was concluded with the presentation of a documentary directed by Md Shahiduzzaman Badal, Director of Dhaka Photographic Institute.
